Dear fellow Rotarians, Rotaractors, Interactors and Earlyactors,  !!.

The end of December and the earth has completed another trip around the sun.

As usual at this time, we look ahead to the new year and also reflect on what has taken place in the last one, always in the hope that we can do better.

As I looked back, my memory took me way back to midnight December 31st 1999. In the previous months leading up to this time there was a great concern that all the computers in the world would crash due to the year change. That 01-01-00 would be seen by all systems as January 1st 1900.

The main stream media at that time did an incredible job of terrifying the general public, with speculation that banks and mortgage lenders would crash, power plants would shut down, and lot more weird things.

I remember the company I worked for at the time in Virginia, had all the managers in the office at midnight at the computers. Midnight Madness !

Like most years past, 2023 had it’s share of good and bad.

Our Rotary organization can be proud of the fact that a very large part of the good has been due to the ceaseless work and devotion of its member here at home and around the world. Our plans for the year ahead will ensure that we continue in that vein, with increased energy and vigour.

Have we succeeded in eliminating Polio ??? Not yet, but we will not give in until we have. Remember, your donations are an essential part in this fight and we cannot achieve it without YOU.

The first 6 months of my year as your District Governor have come and gone so quickly. I have all of you to thank for making this time enjoyable, as you have welcomed me into your meetings and events. My sense of belonging has never been greater.

I have managed to visit almost all of our clubs, but still have 12 to visit. I have stopped my visits now until the end of February, when hopefully the worst of our winter weather will be gone.

Our District Governor Elect – Virginia O’Reilly, and all of our Club President Elects, are about to enter into the final parts of their training as they prepare for the 1st July 2024 when they take over the reins of our District and Clubs. We wish them well and look forward to their leadership.

When the clock strikes midnight on December 31st 2023, I will drink a toast to you all my friends, for your health and happiness as we create hope in the world.
