Rotary Leadership Institute

NETWORK, LEARN, BE INSPIRED.

Rotary Learning and Information:

In a complex , fast-changing world, excellent Rotary club leadership is essential to the future of Rotary.

The future of Rotary and the service we give to our community locally and internationally depends on strong club leadership.

What Is The Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI)?

The Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI) is a series of fast-paced, interactive, one-day courses offered to refine a Rotarian's knowledge of Rotary. Courses are fun, topical, hands-on and geared toward busy business professionals who want to be more effective knowledgeable leaders in their vocation and in their Rotary club. Participants return to their club with enthusiasm, fresh ideas, and valuable leadership skills.

Why should your club participate in RLI?

If your club cares about its future, it will want the best leadership possible. Your key people can gain knowledge through exchanging ideas with experienced Rotarians. Feedback from past participants tells us that the courses are worthwhile.

What is in it for you?

  • Learn from others and share ideas that you can embrace

  • Challenge your thinking, encourage you to think laterally and try new stuff

  • Consider how being a Rotarian is an opportunity for personal growth and fulfillment

  • Go back to your club with fresh ideas, new tools, new contacts, and an increased motivation to take action

As Rotarians, you are already a leader, in your community, in your profession, and in life. At RLI, our purpose is to give you the necessary skills to be better Rotarians. As in every endeavour, the more you know, the more interesting it becomes and the more you get out of it.

RLI is a grassroots coalition of Rotary districts implementing a leadership development program for "potential" leaders of Rotary CLUBS. Established in 1992, RLI has become a worldwide organization.

District 7070 is a founding member of the Shining Waters Division of RLI, which currently includes D 6330, D 7080 and D 7090 and D7010.

RLI believes that excellent CLUB leadership (all types of club leaders) is essential to the future of Rotary in a complex and fast-changing world. Most Rotarians have not been exposed to the great scope of Rotary around the world and have not considered what leadership skills are necessary to move Rotary forward.

RLI strongly believes that a good Rotary Club leader must know the evolution of Rotary, its current status, and activities in the world and have a vision for what Rotary can be in the future.

RLI provides a three-day non-consecutive basic course in both Rotary knowledge and leadership skills, especially for voluntary organizations. RLI follows an adult learning approach with facilitated discussion led by trained Rotary facilitators.

The mission of RLI is to have the clubs in the member districts identify those with the potential for future club leadership and send them to RLI courses at club expense. All member clubs may send any club Rotarian to RLI courses and any Rotarian may attend any course at his/her own initiative.

The overriding goal of the courses for club Rotarians is to create ENTHUSIASM for Rotary by opening up to them the world of Rotary outside of their own clubs and also showing them the great potential of Rotary service for the benefit of the world that can be furthered with excellent leadership in our clubs.

The Rotary Leadership Institute is a series of leadership courses offered in three full‐day parts (Part I, II, and III). Participants must complete each part before proceeding to the next part. The courses are designed to provide Rotary knowledge and to develop leadership skills.

Established in 1992, it was developed for newer Rotarians to learn about Rotary. Because Rotary changes its leadership every year there is a constant need for Rotarians to accept leadership positions in their clubs and beyond. Rotary Leadership Institute now has spread around the world is being offered by more than 160 districts. District 7070 is a founding district in the “Shining Waters Division” of RLI along with Districts 7080, 7090 and 6330 and now 7010.

The Rotary Leadership Institute is fun, interactive, and participatory and uses skilled faculty and facilitation techniques to make the experience valuable and enjoyable.

Courses cover topics such as:

•  Leadership characteristics/skills/strategies
•  Rotary organization beyond the club level
•  Membership recruitment/retention
•  Our Rotary Foundation
•  How to organize a service project
•  Team building/effective committees
•  Ethics/vocational service
•  Strategic Planning and Analysis of your own club
•  Public Image and Public relations

The faculty members are carefully selected by the Institute for their teaching and facilitation abilities. Most are Past District Governors or RLI graduates. Each Faculty member attends a full day training program.

Leadership skills in a voluntary organization are often different from business and professional leadership skills. It is important that club leaders have every opportunity for education because the success or failure of our clubs depends on the quality of our leaders. For newer Rotarians, this is an outstanding opportunity for you to improve your Rotary knowledge. For experienced Rotarians, this is an opportunity to “refresh” and update your Rotary knowledge and to share your experience with newer Rotarians. You are guaranteed to bring back to your club new ideas and approaches that will make your club stronger. Just the interaction with other Rotarians from other clubs makes the courses valuable.

District 7070 Rotarians are eligible to take RLI courses anywhere they wish. Check the Shining Waters Division (www.rli-shiningwaters.org) for course dates and locations.

RLI Programming for this 2020-21 Rotary Year

Exceptional times call for exceptional actions. COVID-19 has forced us to move our regular RLI programming to a virtual format this year. We are excited to bring you the high quality program directly to the comfort of your home. The benefit is we do not have to worry about traffic or snow!

So, what should you consider attending another virtual meeting?

Rotary provides an opportunity for all of us to provide service to our community and around the world. The Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI) has a mission to strengthen Rotary clubs through quality leadership education. As Rotarians, you are already a leader in your community and in your profession. The purpose of RLI is to give you the skills and competencies to be an effective leader in Rotary.

Rotarians new to Rotary and even those with many years of service will benefit from learning how we can create strong clubs with vibrant members who are engaged and committed to Service Above Self.  Now more than ever, the world needs Rotarians to create a more peaceful and equitable world for all.

DETAILS OF THE 2020-21 RLI PROGRAM
