Current District Leadership Opportunities:

June 16, 2023:

The District Board of Directors has confirmed the continuation of the following District Committees:

1.     Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI)

2.     Environmental Action

3.     Governance Committee

Each of the committee members have completed their initial three year terms and a new call for expressions of interest is being extended to all Rotarians and Rotaractors. 

The DEI committee will operate under the direction of the Governance Committee of the District Board.  The Environmental Action Committee will operate under the direction of the Action and Partnerships Committee. The Governance Committee will operate under the oversight of the Board of Directors. 

Membership of all committees will be a minimum of 3 and maximum of 10 members with each member serving for up to 3 years.

Application Process: The request for applicants period is now open as of Friday, June 16, 2023.  Applicants for all 3 committees are asked to respond by email to Terry Caputo, Chair, Governance Committee, by Friday, June 30, 2023, at terrycaputo@outlook.com.

The email should outline the committee of interest and the eligibility of the applicant to serve as a committee member.  All applications will be considered and those to be interviewed will be notified by the Chair of the Governance Committee as soon as possible.

1. Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Committee

Rotary will cultivate a diverse, equitable, and inclusive culture in which people from underrepresented groups have greater opportunities to participate as members and leaders.”

The mandate of the DEI Committee is to:
• contribute to the implementation of the RI Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Statement in District 7070 and to the relevant goals of the Rotary District 7070 Strategic Plan;
• enable District 7070 and Clubs to grow and better reflect the communities we serve and to be inclusive of all cultures, experiences, and identities;
• develop policies and best practices to make our District and Clubs more welcoming, inclusive, and appreciative of each other;
• provide opportunities to foster greater understanding and awareness of diversity, equity, and inclusion matters, including DEI training, and;
• initiate activities to publicly celebrate our District’s wide range of diverse members with an understanding that we are open to all.


The DEI Committee will work in consultation with the District Training, Public Image, and Membership Committees to achieve its mandate. The committee consults with and reports to the Governance Committee of the District Board.


Who is eligible:
Any Rotarian or Rotaractor within District 7070 is invited to apply to be a member of the committee.


Preference will be given to those who have:
• experience with and passion for diversity, equity, and inclusion;
• experience working in teams, committees, boards, or organizations, and;
• demonstrated commitment as a change-agent in diversity, equity, and inclusion.


The committee will have a minimum of 3 and maximum of 10 members, with each member serving for up to 3 years. The chair of the committee, Shauna Moore, was selected by the District Governor with input from the District Governor Team.

 

2. Environmental Action


“By helping to protect our natural world, we support all our areas of focus, and take action to create positive, lasting change across the globe, in our communities, and in ourselves.”


Mission Statement
Rotary International Environmental Sustainable Rotarian Action Group (ESRAG)


The mandate of the Environmental Action Committee is to:
• contribute to the development and implementation of actions that align with the ESRAG mission statement and the Rotary District 7070 Strategic Plan;
• develop policies and best practices to lessen the environmental impact of Rotary activities in the District;
• undertake and promote District and club environment-related activities, including training, and;
• function as a resource for District and clubs on environmental matters.


The Environmental Action Committee will work in consultation with the District Governance and Training committees to achieve its mandate. The committee consults with and reports to the Action and Partnerships Committee of the District Advisory Council.


Who is eligible:
Any Rotarian or Rotaractor within District 7070 is invited to apply to be a member of the committee.


Preference will be given to those who have:
• experience with and passion for environmental sustainability;
• experienced working in teams, committees, boards, or organizations, and;
• demonstrated commitment as a change-agent in environmental sustainability.


The committee will have a minimum of 3 and maximum of 10 members, with each member serving for up to 3 years. The chair of the committee, Nilan Bedi, was selected by the District Governor with input from the District Governor Team.

 

3. Governance Committee
“We are looking for a governance where the government is dishing out truth, a governance which is fair to all concerned, a governance which will bring in goodwill amongst communities, a governance which is ethical and beneficial to all.”

The mandate of the Governance Committee is to:
• review and recommend amendments as appropriate to the Board of Director’s Manual and Board Policies;
• review and make recommendations to the Board regarding the size and composition of the Board and the Committees;
• Establish procedures as required for effective Board and Committee meetings;
• review as required, the articles of incorporation and bylaw of all affiliate corporations, and recommend for approval to the Board or the subsidiary Boards any amendments;
• provide support to the Rotary Clubs of the District in matters of club governance.


The Governance Committee will work in consultation with the District Board of Directors and Leadership Team to achieve its mandate.


Who is eligible:
Any Rotarian or Rotaractor within District 7070 is invited to apply to be a member of the Governance Committee. Preference will be given to those who have:
• experience with and passion for governance;
• experience working in teams, committees, boards, or organizations, and;
• demonstrated commitment as a change-agent in governance.
