Greetings Rotary Family,

Happy September!  I hope that you have enjoyed a fabulous summer and are busy working on projects with your Rotary club.  What new and exciting programs is your club working on this year?  Are you partnering with neighboring clubs?  Collaborating with other clubs and organizations in your community provides the opportunity to increase our impact.

Increasing our Impact is one of the four strategic priorities of our Rotary Action Plan, so what can we do?  We can develop a strategy for educating members about the importance of impactful service projects.  We can conduct a community assessment to determine which issues are top concerns in the area.  We can focus our efforts by reviewing our club’s activities and determine which ones can be streamlined or eliminated so that our club can devote more time on activities that make a real impact.  And we can celebrate long-term successes of service and program offerings, but be open to new projects or opportunities to demonstrate our desire to have an impact and apply for district and global grants. Learn more at: https://my.rotary.org/document/what-clubs-can-do-flyer.

During the month of September, we celebrate Basic Education and Literacy Month.  With more than 775 million people over the age of 15 being illiterate, our goal is to support education in local communities, reduce gender disparity in education and increase adult literacy. One example is a program where Rotary members partnered with ProLiteracy Detroit to recruit and train tutors to teach adults to read after a study showed that more than half of the local adult population was functionally illiterate.  What can your Rotary club do to support education and literacy?

Yours in Rotary,

Chris Etienne
