To our Rotary Family! in Zones 28 and 32 !!!

Since March is Water, Sanitation and Hygiene month and having just returned home from the Presidential Peace Conference in Istanbul, Turkey, my thoughts turned to how providing access to clean water is important to peacebuilding.

The title of the peace conference, “Healing in a Divided World” is so relevant in our world today where we are surrounded by conflict.  We, as Rotary members and people of action, can make a difference.  Here is an example:

A Rotary Peace Fellow from Colombia partnered with Rotary members and other collaborative organizations to provide access to clean water in rural Bolivia.  Maria Antonia Perez partnered with several Rotary clubs to provide clean, safe water to two rural indigenous communities.  The project aimed to empower marginalized groups and create conditions for sustainable human existence.  This project benefitted 72 families, reduced the rate of diarrhea and aided in COVID-19 prevention through increased handwashing.  A quote from Maria, “Clean water isn’t just a basic necessity; it’s a cornerstone for peace, prosperity, and sustainable development. Through collaborative efforts and unwavering dedication, Rotary and its partners are striving to ensure that everyone, regardless of their background or circumstances, has access to this fundamental human right.”

How can you and your fellow club members help promote peace in your community and abroad?

As I close, an important reminder to celebrate our Rotaractors during World Rotaract Week March 10-16.  As we continue to elevate Rotaract, they can now participate in Rotary grants, serve on district, RI and Rotary Foundation committees, set goals in Rotary Club Central and receive Rotary and Rotary Foundation awards.

Yours in Rotary,

Chris Etienne
