Here is just one example of the magic of Rotary from past District Governor Ted Morrison:

We started the current Kids Against Hunger by me (with 4 original clubs - the Rotary Clubs of Oshawa, Oshawa-Parkwood, Whitby, and Whitby Sunrise) in 2018 (adding Bowmanville and Ajax this year) . These events have packed 182,736 meals. This is impressive. However, even more impressive. The Ajax Rotary Club started back in 2014 and over the years they have packed 400,032 meals- that is fantastic!!  Rotary clubs in our district hosted events dating back to 2012 have packed a whopping 1,307,448 meals.

We all should take pride in the support we have shown as Rotarians for assisting in feeding  the people in need around the world.  And that's the Magic of Rotary.

Kids Against Hunger Canada (KAHC) is a registered Canadian humanitarian charity that is headquartered in Peterborough, Ontario. The organization engages community members to be a part of the solution to address hunger, both in Canada and around the world. Our supporters donate, fundraise, create and participate in the packaging of our highly-nutritious, life-saving meal packs.

Each meal pack contains a full day’s nutrition for six people. The food ingredients include rice, fortified vegetable protein, dehydrated vegetables and a special blend of 21 vitamins & minerals.

These food packs are shipped to reliable feeding partners who provide our meals to Canadians and to people of developing and needy countries around the world.

Kids Against Hunger Canada targets a minimum of one-third of the food locally here in Canada providing meals to food banks, shelters, reserves, the Salvation Army and other food programs. The remainder of our food gets shipped abroad to emergency-crisis areas and underdeveloped countries in need.

Our Mission

To engage Canadians, especially youth, in helping to feed those who are hungry, malnourished & starving  in Canada and around the world.

Our Mission and Vision Statement

  1. Feed the Hungry, Malnourished & Starving | We feed the hungry and malnourished & reverse the starvation process in Canada and around the world, using simple, yet nutritionally powerful food that is carefully packaged and sealed. We make sure it gets shipped to needy areas by working with distribution partners of high integrity and capability that can distribute the food directly;
  2. Create, Engage & Maintain Community | We engage our volunteers, supporters and donors to work together in a fun way to make a difference by contributing financially, volunteering with packaging the nutritious food that will feed large numbers of people in need, raising awareness, hosting food packing events of their own, and starting satellites to be able to feed more people in more regions. We meet Canadians’ need for meaning and contribution;
  3. Increase Our Food Supply Network | Our goal is to set up satellites (food packing centres) across Canada, in every major city and province, to spearhead community volunteer packaging to increase our food packing and supplying capability.

What We Do

We package and ship highly nutritious, life-saving meals to the hungry, starving and malnourished within Canada and developing countries around the world by mobilizing the energy and caring of Canadian youth and adults on behalf of those in need.

Kids Against Hunger Canada seeks to end hunger, but also to fill a need among involved Canadians- a need for meaning, community and contribution. Our food packing events are all about having fun with like-minded members of the community, while actively conquering the challenges of world hunger by packaging the highly nutritious food ingredients. We strive to minimize our administration costs so the maximum amount of your donations are going straight into the feeding program.

Our impact

Thanks to your donations and volunteer efforts, Kids Against Hunger Canada has shipped food to more than 19 countries and has packed  over 4 million meals in total to date.

We work with other organizations that are seeking long term solutions to the systemic causes of hunger. We aim to help move our recipients and their families beyond the state of starvation to total self-sufficiency through an increase in health and wellness from our meals.

Kids Against Hunger Canada targets a minimum of one-third of the food locally here in Canada providing meals to food banks, shelters, reserves in northern Canada, the Salvation Army and other food programs. The remainder of our food gets shipped abroad to emergency-crisis areas and underdeveloped countries in need.

Our revolutionary food package has been developed by some of the world's leading food scientists at Cargill, Pillsbury, General Mills and ADM. One package provides six nutrition complete servings, and this box contains 216 meals.

Our food consists of:

  • high-quality white rice
  • texturized vegetable protein - 52% protein
  • blend of 6 dehydrated vegetables
  • 21 vitamins & minerals

Here is the latest event done in Oshawa in November:

OSHAWA, ONTARIO, CANADA, NOVEMBER 2, 2024 – Members of the 6 Rotary Clubs of Oshawa, Oshawa-Parkwood, Whitby, Whitby-Sunrise, Ajax and Bowmanville, together with many family members joined forces and partnered with Kids Against Hunger Canada to purchase and to pack more than 50,000 meals, on Saturday, November 2, 2024, at the Jubilee Pavilion, in Lakeview Park, Oshawa with Kids Against Hunger Canada, it was announced today by the Ted Morrison, Past District Governor of Rotary International District 7070 and chair of the event.

The six Rotary Clubs have paid for the food in addition to help from a Rotary Foundation District Grant and with an efficient assembly line of volunteers dressed in aprons, plastic gloves and hair nets, all 50,000 meals will be packed and ready to ship in short order.

The meals will go to where it is most needed. In previous years, our meals, with transportation provided by Kids Against Hunger Canada, went to Kenya, Haiti, and some went to our Indigenous People right here in Canada. It is anticipated that similar locations, including some for Feed The Need, here in Durham Region, will be chosen shortly for this massive humanitarian project.

World's leading food scientists took nearly 3 years to develop a food package, for KIDS AGAINST HUNGER ( KAHCanada.org ), containing 6 meals for only $ 0.30 per serving, with ingredients that provide a blend of protein, carbohydrates, and vitamins needed by an undernourished child’s body.

Every hour of every day, children die of starvation or malnutrition related diseases. Kids Against Hunger Canada is a registered Canadian charity, whose mission is to end that tragedy.
Kids Against Hunger Canada ( see: https://www.kahcanada.org/ ) packages and ships highly nutritious, life-saving meals to starving and malnourished children within Canada and developing countries around the world. They do this by mobilizing the energy and caring of Canadians, just like those in the six Rotary Clubs of Oshawa, Oshawa-Parkwood, Whitby, Whitby-Sunrise, Ajax and Bowmanville and their families (children, teens, and adults) on behalf of hungry children around the world.

Thank you to our civic leaders for helping us pack those meals: John Henry, Chair Durham Region; Oshawa Deputy Mayor Bob Chapman; and Oshawa Councillor Jim Lee.
