To our Rotary Family! in Zones 28 and 32 !!!

With the month of April upon us, happy spring to all!  I always look forward to this time of year when the final patches snow melt away and the flowers begin to bloom…..new beginnings!

The month of April is Environmental month in Rotary.  As our newest area of focus, it has been exciting to learn about the projects of our clubs and districts including tree plantings, micro-forest programs, watershed and river clean-up projects and pollinator programs.

After years of providing financial support for the B.C. Wildlife Park, members of the Rotary Club of Kamloops West, British Columbia, staked out territory of their own in the 106-acre preserve. Enhancing a habitat that is home to cougars, lynx, bobcats, Rocky Mountain bighorn sheep, arctic wolves, and snakes, the club inaugurated a pollinator garden designed to attract hummingbirds, butterflies, bees, and desirable bugs. Rotarians, Rotaractors and Rotary Youth Exchange students from District 5060 planted foxglove, tulips, lavender, woolly thyme, Russian sage and coneflowers.

What projects can your club undertake to protect the environment in your community?  I hope you enjoy my interview this month with Rotary District 7090 Governor Dave Alexander regarding the Great Lakes Watershed Cleanup initiative.

Yours in Rotary,

Chris Etienne
