WHEN DISASTER STRIKES, EVERY SECOND COUNTS

We can’t predict disasters, but with your support, we can be ready to respond and provide displaced families with the life-saving aid they need right when they need it most.

When disaster strikes, families lose their homes, possessions and livelihoods.

This year, we have helped hundreds of thousands of people recover after losing their homes to disasters. But our warehouses are now empty, and we need to restock them.

We urgently need support to prepare, respond and restock, so we can keep helping families who have lost everything.

Please donate now to help save lives around the world.

An Update on Our Emergency Responses

We're Responding in The Philippines

A series of powerful tropical cyclones over the weekend caused widespread destruction, forcing hundreds of thousands of people to leave their homes. Our team in the Philippines is heading to one of the worst affected regions to assess the damage and work with other local partners and Rotary.
We have a team permanently based in the Philippines and emergency shelter supplies pre-positioned in Cebu, so we’re ready to go in these moments. We plan to support thousands of people who have been uprooted from their homes with emergency shelter and essential items. This will likely include shelter repair kits – tarpaulins, tools, and other materials so people can make their damaged homes watertight.

Myanmar Earthquake: U Wai's Story

When a devastating earthquake struck Myanmar in March, millions were left in urgent need. Meet U Wai, 57, from Inle Lake. He spent weeks in a temporary shelter with 30 others, too afraid to return home.

Just two years before, they had built their two-storey home with lottery winnings. When the quake hit, the supporting poles cracked, walls split, and belongings were swept into the lake.

"I couldn’t sleep for four or five days after the earthquake because I was so scared."

Today, thanks to you, homes in 36 villages have been repaired, including U Wai's. ShelterBox and our partners launched repair efforts in across Mandalay and Southern Shan states — using local carpenters, timber or bamboo frames, corrugated iron roofing, solar lights, and kitchen sets to help homes brave the upcoming rainy season.

Aid Reaches Pakistan and Afghanistan

ShelterBox is responding to both severe flooding in Pakistan and earthquakes in Afghanistan. We are providing the hardest hit communities with customized aid packages including items like tents, tarps, blankets, mosquito nets, solar lights and more. Because of generosity from donors like yourself, communities in Afghanistan and Pakistan will be protected from the elements as winter approaches. Because of you, families can begin the process of self-recovery.

Deployment Updates

Afghanistan

A ShelterBox team is in Afghanistan working with Islamic Relief Afghanistan to get emergency shelter and essential supplies to people whose homes have been destroyed. We’ve already delivered emergency tents to hundreds of people. But that’s just the start. Over the next few weeks, we’ll also support people with warm clothing, thermal blankets, stoves and kitchen sets to help people survive the cold as winter approaches. And buckets, solar lights, and fire blankets for safety.

Chad
Construction of 385 of the planned 500 transitional earth brick shelters are complete. Construction for the remaining 115 shelters will re-start this month due to improving access.

Ethiopia
Distributions of 500 emergency shelter kits, 800 shelter repair kits and 1000 household items have been completed in Tigray.

Gaza

Tents remain unable to move due to the Israeli blockages.

Mozambique

Despite our partner Care being unable to travel due to the security situation, the community have continued roof construction. With 654 CGI sheets delivered so far, 23 out of 47 transitional shelters have been completed.

Myanmar
The project supporting 1000 highly vulnerable earthquake affected households with building materials is well underway with work expected to be completed by mid-December.

Pakistan

Project 1 will support flood affected households with tents, tarpaulins, blankets and mosquito nets. Our partner, Islamic Relief Pakistan, will locally procure additional non-food items such as hygiene kits, solar lights and kitchen sets.

Somalia

Construction is ongoing, with the last report that 60 shelters are complete. UNICEF have agreed to construct 90 latrines for the Doolow shelters. An emergency response has been completed to respond to the needs of 1500 households in Beletweyne, Hiraan district following displacement due to conflict.

ShelterBox and Rotary are official project partners in international disaster relief. ShelterBox is a registered charity independent of Rotary International and the Rotary Foundation.  Since  2012, we have been neighbours, friends and community leaders. Their aim is to create positive, lasting change in communities at home and all over the world.project partners with Rotary International, a global community of 1.2 million. Rotary has supported ShelterBox from the start when a local club championed the simple idea to package up essential shelter items in our now-iconic ShelterBoxes. As ShelterBox grew, so did Rotary support, and we are now international project partners in disaster relief. This partnership has helped us to become who we are today. Our global network of ShelterBox affiliates, which provides all-round assistance, evolved from Rotary relationships.
