ShelterBox Update NOVEMBER 2022:

CRISIS IN THE HORN OF AFRICA

Right now, every 48 seconds, someone is dying from hunger in the Horn of Africa. The region is currently facing its worst drought in 40 years. Almost 20 million people have been affected by the drought and famine has been declared in Ethiopia. People are on the brink of starvation in Kenya, Somalia, Somaliland, Eritrea, and Djibouti.

ShelterBox is responding to the crisis in the Horn of Africa. For the latest info, sign up to receive monthly disaster updates here.

Crops are failing, livestock is dying, and the situation continues deteriorating, causing millions of people to leave their homes and livelihoods in search of food. Four consecutive failed rainy seasons, exacerbated by climate change, have led to crop failures and shortages. Rising fuel and food costs have made this situation dire for many. This is a major humanitarian crisis.

Families across the Horn of Africa have had to sell their properties in order to pay for basic essentials. As a result, drought has not only caused a desperate need for food and water, but also a huge need for emergency shelter. Currently, ShelterBox is providing emergency shelter aid to 13,000 displaced people affected by the drought in the Somali region of Ethiopia. Our aid includes tarpaulins, rope, and other essential items. Learn more here

FLOODS IN PAKISTAN (UPDATE):

Check out this update on our response to the Pakistan floods using our 'train the trainer' model.

The Pakistan floods have affected over 33 million people, taken 1,545 lives to date, and inundated millions of acres of land leaving nearly 2 million homes damaged or destroyed. ShelterBox has a team and aid on the ground. We’re working in partnership with Islamic Relief Worldwide (IRW) and Islamic Relief Pakistan in-country to get our aid to thousands of people affected by the floods. Our team is working to provide tents, water filters and carriers, mosquito nets, and solar lights. As winter approaches, we are also looking to provide blankets and sleeping mats. Thank you so much for your continued support. Thanks to our amazing supporters like you, ShelterBox is able to provide lifesaving aid to families affected by flooding in Pakistan.

CHRISTMAS 2021 - PHILIPPINES - TYPHOON RAI

As the strongest storm to hit the country that year, more than half a million homes were destroyed. Thanks to our supporters, nearly 100,000 people received ShelterBox aid to pave the road to their recovery. Check out our recap of our Typhoon Rai response. Here is a follow-up.

ShelterBox and Rotary are official project partners in international disaster relief. ShelterBox is a registered charity independent of Rotary International and the Rotary Foundation.  Since  2012, we have been neighbours, friends and community leaders. Their aim is to create positive, lasting change in communities at home and all over the world.project partners with Rotary International, a global community of 1.2 million. Rotary has supported ShelterBox from the start when a local club championed the simple idea to package up essential shelter items in our now-iconic ShelterBoxes. As ShelterBox grew, so did Rotary support, and we are now international project partners in disaster relief. This partnership has helped us to become who we are today. Our global network of ShelterBox affiliates, which provides all-round assistance, evolved from Rotary relationships.
