Rotary District 7070 congratulates all of the Rotarians here in southern Ontario, CANADA who have received the King Charles III Coronation Medals for their service to the community.

We asked The Rotary Club presidents to let us know who, in their club have received this prestigious award. Here they are:

AJAX:

Myrna Picotte, Past President of the Rotary Clubs of Pickering and Ajax,  nominated by the Ajax branch of the Royal Canadian Legion. She was also the Past President of the Ajax/Pickering Board of Trade  and a founding member of the Touch of Class Gala event for the benefit of Ajax/Pickering Hospital. She has also Received the Paul Harris Fellowship award in 2007, also the Outstand Achievement Award. She is also the first Pat Baily Award from the Ajax Rotary Club in 2012.  Myrna has been involved with the Royal Canadian Legion Br., 606 in Pickering for over 30 years ,holding many executive positions including President of the  branch and has received the Legionnaire of the Year Award from both the Ladies Auxiliary and the Branch and Zone Commander. Myrna is a Life Member of the Legion and has received the Meritorious Service Medal, and Myrna has received the Volunteer of the Year award from the City of Pickering,  the Life Time Achievement Award from the City of Pickering , a  Life Time Achievement Award for the Ajax/Pickering Board of Trade and is a proud recipient of the Queen’s Golden & Diamond Jubilee medals.

 

 

BOWMANVILLE:

Pauline Calvert -  received from MP Jamil Jivani. “So honoured to be part of these extraordinary recipients of Durham region, all being recognized for community service and receiving KIng Charles Coronation medal presented by MP Jamil Jivani today.”

 

 

COBOURG:

Lynda Kay’s medal was presented to her by YMCA Northumberland, it was in recognition of her outstanding community service recognizing Lynda’s efforts at Northumberland United Way, Community Care Northumberland. - Ed's House Northumberland Hospice, and being a member and Past President of the Rotary Club of Cobourg, amongst many other community initiatives.

 

 

Randy Barber -  received from MP Phil Lawrence. Randy Barber is a dedicated community volunteer and has represented Cobourg on town council for several years. He helped lead the effort to restore St.Peter’s Church and in addition to being a member of the Cobourg Rotary Club, he has served as Vice-President of the Cobourg District Historical Society

 

Dr Bob Scott - received from MP Phil Lawrence. Dr.Robert Scott is a distinguished medical professional and Rotarian from Cobourg. After practicing in Canada as a GP for over 25 years and as a coroner for several more, Dr.Scott retired from local practice in 2000. But he was far from done. Awarded with many honours, and now recognized internationally by the United Nations as an “outstanding leader” in polio eradication, Dr.Scott is a Cobourg institution. A husband, father, and grandfather, he is well known and loved in this community.

 

 

Peter Dounoukos - received from MP PhilLlawrence. Peter Dounoukos has been President of two Rotary Clubs – and was President of the Rotary Club of Cobourg when King Charles was crowned. Sitting on such boards as the Cornerstone Family Violence Prevention Centre and Rebound Youth Services, Peter is a dedicated volunteer to the town of Cobourg.

Amber Derby – received from Dr Colin Carrie, MP Oshawa, said " I'm so honoured and humbled to win his Majesty King Charles III Coronation Medal for Volunteeer Service to the Oshawa Constituency.

Louise Parkes – received from Dr Colin Carrie, MP Oshawa .

Oshawa Rotarian Louise Parkes is a long-time Oshawa resident, a small business owner, and a passionate advocate for our city’s future. With a Master’s and Honours degree in History from Trent University, and an Executive Certificate in Conflict Management, she brings both deep knowledge and real-world experience to the table. She served ten years on Oshawa City Council, where she led key portfolios like development services, always balancing growth with respect for our heritage. She’s a thoughtful leader -someone who listens carefully, builds consensus, and never loses sight of what matters most: people. Louise continues to give back. She’s the co-chair of the Oshawa Walk of Fame, championing the incredible stories and individuals who shape our identity. In recognition of her outstanding service, she was recently awarded the King Charles III Coronation Medal. Above all, Louise Parkes is someone who leads with integrity, empathy, and action. She doesn’t just talk about making a difference - she lives it...

 

OSHAWA-PARKWOOD:

Dave Andrews - received from Dr Colin Carrie, MP Oshawa. “What an honour it was to receive the King Charles III Coronation Medal for volunteer service to the Oshawa Community, in late February, 2025 at the McLaughlin Auditorium, here in Oshawa, Ontario CANADA. Thank you to Dr. Colin Carrie . And thank you to Rhonda Kirkland. It was an honour to be with this distinguished group of recipients..”

 

Emmy Iheme – received from Randy Gill of Their Opportunity and MPP Jennifer French.

Randy Gill had the privilege of honouring an amazing human being as Emmy Iheme received the prestigious King Charles III Coronation Medal. MPP Jennifer French did an outstanding job of curating this special occasion. Our entire Their Opportunity family is very fortunate to have Emmy as Chair of the board. Emmy is also past president of the Rotary Club of Oshawa and a proud member of the Rotary Club of Oshawa-Parkwood.

Samir Dossal – received from MP Paul Chiang. I am deeply grateful to be among a distinguished group of recipients of this prestigious honor, recognizing extraordinary contributions to community service, leadership, and global partnerships.

This recognition holds even greater significance as I return from a successful visit to Pakistan, where I had the privilege of playing a humble role in facilitating the Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) delegation led by Dr. Mohamed Lachemi. This visit culminated in the landmark signing of an MoU between NED University and TMU—a significant milestone in fostering international academic collaboration and knowledge exchange.

As President of the Canada Pakistan Business Council (CPBC), I remain committed to strengthening global partnerships, fostering trade and investment, and building bridges that create lasting opportunities. This recognition is not just a personal milestone but a testament to the collective efforts of so many who share this vision.

John Fortney – “Today was medal day! King Charles III Coronation Medal. Due to the dissolution of Parliament for the election we technically do not have Members of Parliament at the moment so our medals were given out by the Constituency Office for Rosedale - University and The Governor General. Chrystia Freeland did come by and spoke to each of us before the ceremony started. Thank you to my dear friend and Fraternity Brother Robert Zeidler for nominating me. It was good to take a break from all the chaos currently around us to hear great and positive stories of amazing people doing positive things to make Canada a better place. Recipients represented The Arts, Philanthropy, Community Building, Military Service, Literature, Holocaust Remembrance and so much more. Canada Strong!”

Larry was nominated by my local community association, which I've been heavily involved in for the past 12 years.  The nomination also noted my work in Rotary and as president of the Scarborough Community Renewal Organization and the Scarborough Walk of Fame.

He does a-lot of work with Homeless in downtown Toronto providing food and clothing

 Dr. Michael Banh . Michael for his work on the environment (mini forests, bio swale development, Great Lakes Watershed Cleanup). Michael is a Past President of the club.

 

Lisha Van Nieuwenhove. Lisha for her work in community journalism as editor of the Uxbridge Cosmos newspaper.

 

WHITBY:

Trisha Dosaj was presented with a King Charles III Coronation medal for her exceptional commitment to MADD Durham Region. Trisha was hit by an impaired driver in 2013, where she was seriously injured and lost her sister and niece in the crash. She started volunteering in 2017. She currently serves as the chapter president for MADD Durham Region. Trisha goes above & beyond to create public awareness and support victims. She actively participates in sobriety checkpoints, speaks to students (#ProjectSafeProm), and plays a major role is in the chapter's annual awareness fundraisers - a golf tournament and Strides for Change. One of her latest projects was a police appreciation coin.
