Given the skilled labour shortage both locally and nationally, the timing of this new project could not be better. Skills Canada estimates that 40 per cent of the new jobs created, in the next decade, will be in skilled trades. Colleges Ontario forecasts that by 2030 the province will face a skilled labour shortage of more than 500,000 workers
Generously partnering with Durham College to help fund the expansion with transformative support are Ontario Power Generation (OPG), the Region of Durham, the Town of Whitby and the Durham College Student Association (DCSA), the Rotary Club of Oshawa-Parkwood is pleased to add to the support and gifts from individuals, corporations and foundations and hopes that they can do even more in the years to come.
To date, the Building for Skills campaign has raised over $9.9 million toward the $10 million in community support required to fully fund the construction, furnishings and equipment for the CSTT.
