NEWS from Shelterbox Canada - April 16, 2025 - A Second Earthquake Has Struck Myanmar - Donate TODAY

ShelterBox has teams in Myanmar and Thailand working hard to coordinate the deployment of emergency shelter aid to people in Myanmar whose homes were damaged or destroyed.

Our team is working closely with local contacts, other humanitarian organizations, and networks like Rotary.

We’re focusing our efforts on Myanmar because it has been the most severely impacted by the earthquakes and powerful aftershocks.

“The types of homes that have been destroyed by the earthquake vary hugely because the areas affected include very dry areas and areas affected by flooding and so one solution will not suit all communities."

We are continuing to talk with a local organization that has the necessary registration to work in Myanmar safely, in the hopes they can partner with us on this response.

One option we’re looking at is to focus on rural areas where people typically live in shelters made from bamboo, timber and corrugated iron. It’s likely that items like shelter repair kits, tarpaulins and tool kits would support people to make their own repairs that could provide shade from intense heat and shelter from heavy rains.

The country is at war and that adds layers of complexity to an already challenging response. We’re looking at all aid options, including what we can procure locally.
