Your Club can help.  Our District 7070 Action Committee's Areas of Focus Coordinator is John Currie from the Pickering Rotary Club. He can be reached at john.currie@pickeringrotary.ca .   If you have a good news story, please send it to us. Click here to view their new website and check the Areas of Focus Action Committees Menu Bar in the District Newsletter under HIP.  This rapidly growing nation-wide movement, HIP,  is a partnership between Indigenous Peoples & Rotarians. The new website contains stories about supporters, just like you and your Club, who are making an impact across Canada by taking action to create lasting change! Here are some highlights .........

A Message from the Chair - Chris Snyder

HIP'S Growth

Over the past few months, we have been very busy deepening and increasing our Rotary and Indigenous involvement. We have appointed a number of new HIP District Coordinators, who will be organizing and encouraging Rotary Club involvement. We hope that within several months, all Rotary districts in Canada will have a HIP District Coordinator. They will be key to advancing HIP'S mission. See details on our new website.

You may have noticed the new HIP website. You can access it the same way www.rotaryhip.com or www.honouringindigenouspeoples.com

On the opening page, you will notice reference to joining HIP’s movement and register to become an “Ally”. Becoming an Ally is not new however, we have decided to remove the financial barrier. We appreciate the support from everyone who had previously registered and will now be honouring you as founding Allies. Instead of a fee, we are asking you to make a commitment to learning more about Indigenous Peoples and agreeing with our values. Being an Ally is open to everyone including Indigenous communities, Rotary Clubs, faith groups, organizations and Individuals. We hope you will join our movement. Together we can make a huge impact.

Till next time, Migwetch (Thank You)

What is your club doing to Honour Indigenous People? Please email Julie Dunaiskis (julie@eccgroup.ca) with a brief summary so we can post on the HIP website and provide an update in upcoming newsletters. This will help other clubs and provide a sense of how we are involved. We do not know the precise number of clubs across Canada who are involved in educational and awareness activities, however, our guess is we are close to 175 and growing. Some clubs were involved well before HIP, many on their own and some because of our encouragement and leadership.

Regards,

Julie Dunaiskis
