Dear Rotarians and members of the Rotary family and friends of Rotary,

REMEMBER NOVEMBER: If there is a peak season for our campaign, it is the month of November. We will, after all, pause on Monday, November 11, to reflect on the sacrifice of many who served in the Canadian Armed Forces to defend our freedom. We will also reflect on those who did not come home during times of conflict: 117,000 since the war of 1812. We will hear John McRae's famous poem recited somewhere, at least once. And we will be mindful of his words. I think that it is a fine coincidence that the months of Thanksgiving and the month of Remembrance are back to back. October and November even rhyme, almost. Here at the Highway of Heroes Tree Campaign, we are thankful for so much. Indeed, that is a gross understatement.....

We are grateful for the biggest tree planting month in our history: over 9,000 trees ON the highway right of way in October (including many more this month). We are grateful for volunteers who showed up this fall at four public tree planting days. We could never have planted all those trees without you!

We are grateful for our most generous sponsors. We are grateful to our donors, staff, our volunteer board, members of Landscape Ontario who have donated their services and in-kind products, patrons and our Champions and Honorary Patrons David and Sharon Johnston. The list is long, but mostly we are grateful to you, our dear Rotarians and members of the Rotary family, for showing an interest and sharing our story.

Double Your Impact

We are excited to announce the return of our Double Your Impact offer: an anonymous Canadian donor will match every dollar that you donate up to $100,000 for a combined total of $200,000. Imagine the number of trees we can plant with that money!

But wait, there's more, every time you donate, spread the word on social media about our campaign or share a story with us, you will get a ballot in our weekly donor appreciation draw. How is that?

All donations from November 1 until December 31st 2019 at midnight, up to $100,000, will be matched by a generous benefactor that wishes to remain anonymous. Learn more about how you can help us raise $200,000 before the midnight on New Year's Eve!

THANK YOU !

Our campaign is truly a group effort. With your help we have been able to raise over $7.5 million dollars towards our goal.

In recognition of your amazing support we are going to be giving away weekly prizes that have been donated to our organization to thank you, our generous supporters.

There are three easy ways to get your name in our weekly draw:

Remember, November takes on new meaning when you support a cause like this. It translates into a living memorial to all Canadians who fell and volunteered to serve during times of war: the largest memorial of its kind in the world, a memorial that will outlive everyone who reads this newsletter.

John Mc Rae wrote,

To you from failing hands we throw,
The torch: be yours to hold it high

You know the words. Today is an exceptional opportunity to put them into action. To carry the torch by supporting the planting of trees along the busiest highway in North America in memory of Canada's fallen.

A living memorial indeed. To those who,

loved and were loved and now (we) lie
In Flanders Fields

Thank you again for all of your support!
