In his October 2021 Newsletter, District Governor Ron Dick talks about some of his official visits to our clubs, and reminds us to join Tuesday Talks in October and to hear Past District Governor Ron Denham on Water projects world-wide, and tells us all to get the word out to everyone about World Polio Day, on October 24 and to join us on Oct 21 as we broadcast LIVE with Dr. Bob Scott moderating a live panel discussion of Distinguished Rotarians: RI President Shekhar Mehta, Vice President Valarie Wafer, International Polio Plus Chair Mike McGovern, and from Nigeria, Polio Plus Chair Dr. Tunji Funsho and by way of video a message from Incoming Rotary International President Jennifer Jones ...........

Hello District 7070 Rotarians, Rotaractors, Interactors and Earlyactors!

I had another busy month in September with 5 Joint or Cluster meetings for the DG visit to 16 Rotary Clubs, 4 Rotary Zone Virtual meetings, 4 District or Club events and the very successful District Foundation Walk in Trenton!  While most of my meetings were virtual via Zoom I did have the pleasure of meeting in person with the Port Hope and Northumberland Sunrise Rotary Clubs at the historic Capital Theatre in Port Hope!

One of my District Events was the raising of the End Polio Flag at the Region of Durham on September 20th.  I was proud to accept the World Polio Day proclamation on behalf of all the District 7070 Rotarians from Durham Regional Chair (and Oshawa Rotary Club member) John Henry.  A video is being prepared of all the End Polio Proclamations and Flag raisings to be displayed in our World Polio Day live steam event on Thursday, Oct 21st at 7pm from the Rotary Global Classroom at Durham College in Oshawa (preview the class page: https://durhamcollege.ca/globalclass/class/rotary-international-2021-world-polio-day/).

Our very popular Tuesday Talks series continues on October 12th at 7pm with WASHRAG and our very own PDG Ron Denham as our guest speaker.  Richard Mewhinney, Chair of the District 7070 Areas of Focus Action Committee invites our Rotary family to hear Past District Governor Ron Denham, Chair Emeritus of WASH-RAG. In the first of two Tuesday Talks, you will learn what we, Rotarians, can do to solve water, sanitation & hygiene problems and how Rotarians can change this dynamic to ensure sustainable, effective water or sanitation systems that serve communities forever.  Our District 7070 has a great tradition of excellent water and sanitation projects in Uganda, India, Bangladesh, Dominican Republic and Laos but there is still much work to do around the world and here in our own backyard with our Canadian Indigenous communities.  Let’s tune in on Oct 12th to see how we can do more!

While we do have the 4th wave of the Covid pandemic to be cautious of, as we all vaccinate, I am looking forward to safely getting back together in person- handshakes and hugs!   There are many club visits and club events scheduled for October and the World Polio Day live stream on Thursday, Oct 21st at 7pm.  Stay tuned for more details on our World Polio Days activies.

We are almost there- Stay safe!

Yours in Rotary,

DG Ron
