Welcome to the very cold and very snow-filled February edition of the District 7070 Newsletter!
Well… here we are — smack dab in the middle of winter! I hope you’re all surviving the snowdrifts, the icy sidewalks, and those mornings where your car refuses to warm up until you’ve reached your destination. I don’t know about you, but my toes are screaming, “Let me out of here!” And let’s be honest — this is prime onesie season! I bet those cozy, fuzzy pajamas are getting their fair share of wear right now. (Extra points if you’ve completed a Rotary Learning Center course in yours — that’s true dedication right there!)
But seriously — I hope this newsletter finds you safe, warm, and surrounded by people who make you smile. February may be cold on the outside, but it’s the perfect month to focus on warming hearts.
Before I dive into what’s happening across our amazing District, I need to take a moment — actually, a few moments — to say thank you.
First, to my incredible District Governor Team — Virginia, Liz, and Tina. You three are my sounding board, my reality check, my cheerleaders, and my partners-in-chaos (in the best Rotary way possible). You’ve talked me out of crazy ideas, talked me into crazier ones, and been there every single step of the way. I truly could not do this without you. You are family — plain and simple — and I am so grateful for your energy, your wisdom, and your friendship.
A very special thank you to the District Leadership Team — the behind-the-scenes heroes who keep me organized, grounded, and (mostly) sane on a monthly basis! You answer my endless questions, keep the communication flowing, and make sure the District keeps running smoothly. Truly, I could not do this without you. You keep me balanced, laughing, and occasionally remind me to breathe — and for that, I am beyond grateful.
To our Assistant Governors — all 15 of you. Wow. You are the glue that keeps this District connected. You show up to events, support clubs, share ideas, and jump in whenever help is needed — even when your calendars are already overflowing. You fill in when I can’t make a visit, and you represent this District with such pride and passion. You are my teammates, my eyes and ears across the region, and my heroes more times than I can count. Thank you for leading with heart and humour.
And finally — my biggest, most heart-bursting thank you goes out to every single Rotarian in District 7070. You’ve supported me, encouraged me, and inspired me every day. You’ve welcomed me into your clubs with warmth, laughter, and open arms (and sometimes a cupcake or two — always appreciated!). You remind me what Rotary truly is — people who care deeply about making a difference and having a bit of fun while doing it. You are the heartbeat of this District, and together, we truly Unite for Good.
February isn’t just about hearts and chocolates — it’s also about peace. Rotary recognizes Peacebuilding and Conflict Prevention as one of our key areas of focus, and this month we’re reminded that peace begins with understanding. Peace isn’t just the absence of conflict — it’s the presence of connection, respect, and empathy. It’s choosing to listen before we speak, to learn before we judge, and to extend a hand instead of turning away. Every club in our District contributes to peacebuilding — whether it’s supporting youth programs that teach leadership and compassion, working on local community projects that bring people together, or helping fund global initiatives that rebuild hope after conflict. You are peacebuilders, each and every one of you, in your own way. So, as we move through this chilly month, let’s carry that message of peace — and keep uniting for good, one conversation, one project, and one act of kindness at a time.
There’s a lot to look forward to (and it’s not just spring… though I am counting down the days until flip-flop weather!).
President-Elect Learning Seminar (PELS) is right around the corner! This is where our next wave of Rotary leaders get ready to take the wheel and steer their clubs toward greater impact. To all our incoming Presidents — get ready for an inspiring, energizing experience. We can’t wait to see how you will lead and grow your clubs in the year ahead.
Learning Tuesday — mark your calendars for Tuesday, February 17th. The topic will be announced soon, but you know it’ll be something to stretch your mind and spark ideas. These sessions have been a fantastic way to learn, share, and connect — so grab your favourite mug, log in, and join us!
And then in March, we’ll be celebrating International Women’s Day! We’ll feature three incredible women from right here in District 7070 who are making waves in their communities — plus, you know me… there will be a little surprise in store! (I can’t help myself — I love a good surprise!)
Our clubs are buzzing with activity, and I love seeing all the creativity and passion in action. Remember to check the District Calendar regularly — there’s always something happening, and every event is a chance to learn, celebrate, and support one another.
