In his August 2023 Newsletter, District 7070 Governor John Burns urges all of us to find ways for focus attracting and keeping memebrs in our club since August is Membership Month. He asks us to consider becoming a member of the District 7070 DEI Committee and John asks us to enter our club goals into Rotary Club Central as soon as possible. He announced that Past District Governor Iosif Ciosa is chair of the District Training / Learning Committee and he is planning many training activies for all of us in 2023-24. John reminds us all to register TODAY for the Rotary District Conference  (Oct 20, 21 and 22). John is also busy with all of his club visits and has added some photos of recent ones ............

Dear fellow Rotarians, Rotaractors, Interactors and Earlyactors,  !!.

The month of July has just flown past. It has been a busy month in the district, packed with the usual line of summer fund raising events, which will continue through August and into September. Rib Fests and Beer Fests are in full swing.

I wish you all success in your endeavours and that you raise a lot of funds to allow you to continue doing good in your community and internationally.

If your club is not staging an event, go volunteer to help another club with theirs. It’s fun and you get to socialize with all your Rotary friends.

Membership Month

August is Membership month on the Rotary Calendar.

The focus is not only on finding new members, it is equally important to consider current member retention and well being.

Are there members you have not seen for some time? Give them a call and find out if they are OK or need help. Take them for a coffee and have a chat.

Remember, if you have new members in your club, be sure to get them involved especially if they have a passion for a specific type of service. Be sure to mentor with them, it will be beneficial to both of you.

DEI Committee

Thanks to Shauna Moore, we now have a new DEI committee and they will be working on a presentation to be ready to present it to our clubs in the near future.

Shauna has indicated that she will be happy to hear from other Rotarians who may be interested in joining the committee.

They can contact her by email  shaunanmoore@gmail.com

Club Goals

We are a month into the rotary year, and 30 of our clubs (more than 50%) have not entered any goals in Rotary Club Central. I urge all club presidents to complete this task as the goals are what your clubs should be planning to achieve this year. The goals give you focus and a sense of purpose.

District Training

Past District Governor Iosif Ciosa is currently developing a training program for this year, and he will be announcing the schedule soon.

As a reminder of the training taking place in the month ahead, Dave Andrews will post it on the district web site.

I will also show it on my monthly and weekly newsletters, so that you can select the ones you want and plan to take part.

District Conference

20th, 21st and 22nd October – Courtyard Oshawa by Marriott

I will keep reminding all of you to register for the District Conference, where we will have time to enjoy fellowship, learn and showcase that we are amazing.

Club Visits

One of the most enjoyable and satisfying parts of the DG position is the club visits.

I have a lot already scheduled and I keep adding more. You can see them on the District Calendar. Presidents should work with their AGs to try and schedule my visits, if possible, with more that one club at a time.

I will continue the visits until the end of November and then restart in late February to avoid travel in the worst of the winter weather.

Have a wonderful August, and I look forward to seeing you during my visits or at your fundraising events.
