Dear Fellow Rotarians,
Here we are in May 2022, in our 11th month of this Rotary year. We are so pleased to see Rotary clubs and Rotarians, throughout the District establishing and meeting their Rotary Foundation goals and their club members making their personal donations and club donations. Once again, I want to thank you to the many Clubs for their ongoing remarkable achievements and encourage you to continue your efforts to support The Rotary Foundation in 2021-22 .
I can't think of a better time than right now, to remind all Rotarians to help achieve your club's goals and your own personal goal as you continue to support our Rotary Foundation. Thank you. Just think of the impact if every Rotarian on District 7070 made a donation, to The Rotary Foundation. It's up to you.
To assist your club in your fundraising efforts for The Rotary Foundation, as a reminder, we hope that you have collected lots of pledges, and raised lots of money for the District 7070 Rotary Foundation Walk, or on your own Club's Rotary Foundation Walk. We hope that you have already made that donation to The Rotary Foundation Canada. Thank you to our clubs in the eastern portion of the District for hosting this year. In 2022, it will be the Durham Region Rotary Clubs who are our hosts.
If you are thinking about Grants, be sure to qualify for your 2022-23 Grants . The deadline in May 31, 2022.

The Rotary Foundation has four funds available to us for making these contributions, the Annual Fund, the Polio Plus Fund , the Disaster Response Fund, and the Endowment Fund.

Has your club set your goals and are you carrying out your plans to reach the goals that you put into Rotary Club Central for 2021-22? Remember the requirements for the Presidential Citation. Just 2 months to go to reach you goals.
POLIOPLUS:
How is your Club progressing with meeting your Rotary Club goal for the 2021-22 Rotary year, at least $ 1,500 per club to PolioPlus?
When are you, as an individual Rotarian, and your club, going to make that important donation this new Rotary year? What was your goal? Do you do a fundraiser in your community to help End Polio? Did you know that Rotary International's goal is for EACH club to donate at least $1,500 this Rotary year to the PolioPlus Fund. Please encourage your Club President and your club Rotary Foundation Chair to honour this important goal.
Has everyone in your Club, this Rotary Year, made that same commitment to personally donate at least $20.00 for the eradication of Polio - this year? Again, this Rotary Year, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation will match our contributions on a 2 for 1 basis. And we sure would like every Rotarian in District 7070 to do the same. If Rotarians raise the full $50 million US, The Gates Foundation will match if to the tune of $100 million US. Help us get that $100 million and ask your club members to make a donation at endpolio.org,
ANNUAL PROGRAMS FUND:
And I sure hope that your Rotary Club has set your goal for contributing at least $ 100.00 US for each member of your club, for Annual Giving to the Annual Programs Fund of the Rotary Foundation for 2021-22. I hope all District 7070 Clubs that will be making that important donation to the Rotary Foundation and I hope that all of you will keep up the good work to reach your goal, this new Rotary year . This is where we get our money for Grants. Last year, we did have 100% in commitments met.

We have set up the 2022-23 Grants Qualification online to get you and your club prepared for applying for grants, both Global and District grants. Be sure to sign up soon, on the District website.
EVERY ROTARIAN - EVERY YEAR:
We want to reach our goal for this year and next. We would like to see $ 100.00 US from every member, in every Rotary Club.
But if your members cannot reach that target, we understand. But can they donate some smaller amount? Wouldn't it be very special to see your Rotary Club with 100% of your members contributing something to the Annual Programs Fund? This is our commitment to the Every Rotarian Every Year Campaign of the Rotary Foundation - EREY (Every Rotarian Every Year). We hope it is yours too.

THE ENDOWMENT FUND - MAJOR GIFTS INITIATIVE

Please let me know if you, or someone you know, wishes to take this next step to support Our Rotary Foundation. More than 100 years ago, Rotarians took bold action to ensure your success and the empowerment of generations still to come — they established The Rotary Foundation to secure a better future. Gifts to Rotary's Endowment ensure that future Rotarians will have the resources they need to design and implement sustainable projects year after year. Rotary strives to increase the value of your gift to the Endowment by preserving and investing your initial contribution and spending only a portion of the earnings. This strategy supports Rotary's causes today while generating funds that will further the work of future Rotarians committed to Doing Good in the World. When you give to the Endowment today, you can watch as the value of your gift grows and investment earnings improve communities. You can secure your vision for the future by including a commitment to the Foundation in your will or estate plan. The Trustees of the Rotary Foundation have set a goal to get the Endowment fund to $2.5 billion US Funds by the year 2025.
While Rotary is a major player partnered with the Gates Foundation for the eradication of Polio, Rotary is asking clubs to be in a position to partner with other NGO’s on projects that currently fall beyond the means of our District or Global Grants programs. Accordingly, they have created the Major Gifts Initiative for each of our six areas of focus.

HELP FOR THE UKRAINE:
The District 7070 Foundation committee has been watching the expanding humanitarian crisis in Ukraine and knows many clubs are offering support through the Red Cross or ShelterBox to name two. These offer immediate support to the victims. For Rotary Clubs looking to provide support for the Ukraine we are suggesting the following three recommendations:
1- In response to the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine, the Rotary Foundation has made available the Disaster Response Fund as the main avenue for contributions. Rotary International has the Disaster Response Fund set up where clubs can apply for Global Grants to help with the crisis. This will be the main avenue for Rotary Foundation support, but Rotary and Rotaract clubs are also encouraged to create their own responses to the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine. The District 7070 Foundation Committee has proposed that the District will match all Rotarian and club donations to the Disaster Response Fund up to $25,000. In addition to the support provided through the Disaster Response Fund, the Foundation is coordinating with partners and regional leaders, exploring effective solutions to the increased humanitarian needs. Individuals and clubs can donate to the Disaster Response Fund and Recognition of all donations will be credited to the individual donors and clubs. 2- ShelterBox- District 7070 Rotary and Rotaract Clubs can make donations towards the Ukraine Aid for ShelterBox (a Rotary partner) via The Rotary Club of Toronto matching grant campaign and double their impact. The Rotary Club of Toronto is donating $15,000 towards Ukraine Aid via ShelterBox Canada and an additional $15,000 has been set up for a $ for $ matching grant campaign. 3- Health Partners International of Canada (HPIC) for your willingness to support our emergency response to Ukraine. For 31 year’s HPIC has been working to increase the access of medicines in vulnerable communities that have been affected by crisis, conflict, or have been victims of natural disasters. Since 1990, we have mobilized $625 million worth of medicines and directly impacted 25 million people across 130 countries. At this time, we feel that the situation in Ukraine is simply heart-breaking, and our organization sees the urgent need to respond and provide immediate medical relief. That’s what we are meant to do – to care for our neighbours in need. HPIC has just organized an emergency response fundraising campaign with a financial goal of $240,000. We want is to help expedite medicines to Ukrainians in need, either in-country or in neighbouring countries which they have gone to seek refuge.
We are currently working with NGO & pharmaceutical partners and every day Canadian donors to make an impact now. Last week, we mobilized our first shipment of medicines with our Humanitarian Medical Kits (HMKs) to Poland and we are in discussions to continue sending medical aid with healthcare professionals who are part of a medical mission teams as well as other well-established NGO partners who are also responding. HPIC is uniquely positioned in that we are the only charity in Canada with a Canada Health License and able to mobilize donated medicines quickly and efficiently. Our response to help the people of Ukraine will be continuous over the course of this year. To do this, we need help! Our pledge for 2022 is to mobilize a minimum of 400 Humanitarian Medical Kits (HMKs). Each HMK consists of 600 treatments and is valued at approximately $6,000.00 CND. Based on current needs HMK consist of essential medicines such as antibiotics, antihypertensives, anti-inflammatories, analgesics, products to treat dermal infections, asthma, heart conditions and first aid. We have been asking the community to join this response by helping us to sponsor the costs of mobilizing these kits. Each HMK can be sponsored for $600.00. At this time, we have secured funding to mobilize the first 100 HMKs and we appeal to all of you at Rotary to help us get closer to the finish line. Every HMK that is sponsored literally help to save the lives and restore the health of our brothers and sisters of Ukraine who have been affected by this terrible war. Donations coming in from District 7070 Rotary and Rotaract clubs will be matched dollar for dollar. Please be sure to tell your club lead that you have made your donation online so that they can keep track.
