Recently, District Governor John Burns presented District Grant cheques to projects run by Clubs in the District. The cheque presentations, which were for projects in the current Rotary year, took place at the District Conference and the Foundation Grant Management Seminar. This year, there are 20 District Grant projects, involving more than 30 Clubs in the District. The total amount of District Grant funds presented to projects in D7070 is close to $100,000. The District Grant projects wary in size and location. Most projects have three to five Clubs working together. Projects are taking place both locally and internationally. The monies for the District Grant cheques come from the District Designated Funds (DDF) that the District receives every year, based on donations to the Annual Fund of the Rotary Foundation three years prior.
Clubs that want to apply for District Grants must be qualified, which is a yearly process. About 75 Rotarians in D7070 attended the recent seminar in Oshawa to learn about the Rotary Foundation’s grants program as part of the qualification process for the 2024-25 Rotary year.
Rotary and Rotaract Clubs can also be qualified by having members complete the on-line qualification quizzes. The 2024-25 modules will be posted on the District’s website in late January 2024. Applications for District Grants in the 2024-25 Rotary year must be submitted March 1 – May 31, 2024.
