Here is the success of a project undertaken by the Rotary Club of Willowdale in 2000 that President Howard Bak recently shared shared with the members:
“In the Rotary year 2000-2001, under the leadership of then President John Walters, the Rotary Club of Willowdale raised tens of thousands of dollars to bring a teenager from Jordan for surgery in Toronto. Rasha Oudeh, 18 years old, suffered from Treacher Collins Syndrome. The Club arranged for Rasha and her mother to travel to Toronto, funding their extended stay while she underwent several surgeries involving facial reconstruction. All her medical expenses were covered. Rasha returned to Toronto the following year and a final surgery was performed on April 8, 2002.
Dr. Antonyshyn, her surgeon, made a presentation to the Club of the surgeries performed on Rasha and was presented with a Paul Harris Fellow.
Recently, John Walters was in Jordan and visited Rasha. I have attached a photograph of his visit (see below). Rasha is the lady on the right. She is an award-winning fashion designer having started her own fashion design company, shipping products worldwide from Jordan.
Another example of how Rotary can affect the lives of individuals around the world.”
