Members of the 6 Rotary Clubs of Oshawa, Oshawa-Parkwood, Whitby, Whitby-Sunrise, Ajax and Bowmanville, together with many family members joined forces and partnered with Kids Against Hunger Canada to purchase and to pack more than 50,000 meals, in one day, on Saturday, November 2, 2024, at the Jubilee Pavilion, in Lakeview Park, Oshawa with Kids Against Hunger Canada , it was announced today by the Ted Morrison, Past District Governor of Rotary International District 7070 and chair of the event.
The six Rotary Clubs have paid for the food in addition to help from a Rotary Foundation District Grant and with an efficient assembly line of volunteers dressed in aprons, plastic gloves and hair nets, all 50,000 meals will be packed and ready to ship in short order.......
The meals will go to where it is most needed. In previous years, our meals, with transportation provided by Kids Against Hunger Canada, went to Kenya, Haiti, and some went to our Indigenous People right here in Canada. It is anticipated that similar locations, including some for Feed The Need, here in Durham Region, will be chosen shortly for this massive humanitarian project.
World's leading food scientists took nearly 3 years to develop a food package, for KIDS AGAINST HUNGER ( KAHCanada.org ), containing 6 meals for only $ 0.30 per serving, with ingredients that provide a blend of protein, carbohydrates, and vitamins needed by an undernourished child’s body.
Every hour of every day, children die of starvation or malnutrition related diseases. Kids Against Hunger Canada is a registered Canadian charity, whose mission is to end that tragedy.
Kids Against Hunger Canada ( see: https://www.kahcanada.org/ ) packages and ships highly nutritious, life-saving meals to starving and malnourished children within Canada and developing countries around the world. They do this by mobilizing the energy and caring of Canadians, just like those in the six Rotary Clubs of Oshawa, Oshawa-Parkwood, Whitby, Whitby-Sunrise, Ajax and Bowmanville and their families (children, teens, and adults) on behalf of hungry children around the world.
Thank you to our civic leaders for helping us pack those meals: John Henry, Chair Durham Region; Oshawa Deputy Mayor Bob Chapman; and Oshawa Councillor Jim Lee.
