Good evening everyone!
Before I get into my very quick speech…can we please give a huge round of applause to Linda Raney for organizing this incredible evening? Honestly, Linda makes this look easy but I know it’s not. Linda, on behalf of everyone here tonight…Thank you!
I also want to thank our caterer, Catering Delights! The food was delicious!! Thank you for being here tonight.
It is such a privilege to be here tonight as we reflect on an incredible Rotary year THE MAGIC OF ROTARY—one that’s been full of service, connection, inspiration… and let’s be honest, a few late-night emails, some creative Zoom filters, and probably more wine than anyone wants to admit. And at the heart of it all was our District Governor—Virginia
Virginia, You didn’t just lead this district—you sparkled through it. You’ve reminded us that Rotary doesn’t have to be all business suits and bylaws—it can be laughter, magic, and moments that truly bring people together. Your energy, your heart, and your slight obsession with the microphone have left a mark none of us will forget. (for those who don’t know.. if you don’t use the microphone, Virginia will yell at you)
Now, people keep asking me how I feel stepping into Virginia’s shoes… And here’s the truth: I’m not stepping into Virginia’s shoes. Mostly because she has far better taste in footwear. But I am honoured to follow the path you helped pave. A path filled with purpose, paved with kindness, and occasionally lit by the flash of fire.
Virginia has given me guidance, she has held my hand through training, she has listened to some of my crazy ideas and she has done all of this while saying – have another glass of wine Niecy! Virginia, thank you for the year, you’ve led us with grace, energy, and a fierce belief in The Magic of Rotary. On July 1st, when you become Immediate Past District Governor, just remember I still know your phone number and your address! On behalf of the entire District I want to thank you….. Thank you for being a Governor who led not just with her head, but with her whole heart. Let’s give it up for our incredible Governor, Virginia!
