Past District Governor Ron Dick and the District Governor Team hosted the annual District Govern Changeover Ceremony and Awards Presentations for more than 130 Rotarians and Rotaractors and their spouses from all over District 7070, on June 24, 2022 at the Jubilee Pavillion on Oshawa, as Past District Governor Ron recognized many clubs, Rotarians, Rotaractors and Interactors for their outstanding contributions to Rotary during this year.......

DISTRICT 7070 YOUTH SERVICES AWARDS:

DG  Mark paid a lovely tribute to Patti Wright, our District 7070 Youth Service Chair for many years,  who passed away one year ago this week . He told everyone how much Patti Wright meant to District 7070 and the Youth of our District. Mark as this year's Chair of Youth Services, thanked the committee (Rotaract - Shauna Moore and District Rotaract Rep Stacey Chikoto; Interact - Laura Bradford, for their outstanding work this year, all in the midst of the pandemic and Beth Selby and the Youth Exchange Committee for restarting this important program, after COVID.

DISTRICT OUTSTANDING PROJECT AWARD – Recognizes Interactors who are making a sustainable impact in one of Rotary's areas of focus through their innovative community or international service projects To the Aurora-Newmarket Interact Club and their work with the Canadian Blood Service Drive

 

DISTRICT ROTARACT AWARDS: presented by Shauna Moore, District 7070 Chair , Rotaract 

Shauna Moore thanked Stacey Chikoto for all of her work as District 7070 Rotaract Representative and welcomed the 2022-23 District 7070 Rotaract  Rep Stacey Chikoto Wahl to carry on the excellent work done by the Rotaractors of District 7070 in 2020-21. Here are some highilghts:

  • Presidents Training: We talked about governance, engagement, planning projects and how to update my rotary among other topics. 

  • Hosted bi-monthly presidents' meetings. 

  • Games Night Social and Toy Drive  HOSTED by Rotaract Club of York University and Rotaract Club of Toronto Danforth. We collected toys which were donated to the Toronto Firefighters Toy Drive

  • Makings Waves Fundraiser and Social: We joined Rotaractors across Canada by jumping into icy waters to fundraise for clean water access in indigenous communities for the Rotaract Canada challenge. Thanks to our Rotaractors and Donors we managed to raise $600! This was also our first in-person social of the year

  • We had our year-end celebration and Hygiene Drive in Collaboration with JF Charity where we packed and distributed over 100 hygiene packs to people experiencing homelessness in Moss Park, Downtown Toronto! It was a successful and well-received event!

  • After the Hygiene Drive, we had our Rotaract Year End awards lunch attended by 20 Rotaractors.

This trophy is awarded annually to the club in the district that made the most outstanding contribution to the International Service of Rotary during the preceding Rotary year. 

 

Tibor Gregor Community Service Award - to the Rotary Club of Wellington

This award is given to the club with the best Community Service project during the year. 

 

The Rotary Foundation Trophy Certificate - to Rotary Clubs of Toronto Sunrise, Ajax and Oshawa

This awarded to the club with the highest member retention ratio based on clubs’ membership at the beginning of the Rotary year. 

 

Wally Large Memorial Award - to the Rotary Clubs of Toronto Earlscourt and Toronto Danforth

This awarded to the club with the highest percentage increase of membership growth for the past twelve month period. 

 

Youth Services Award - Patti Wright RIP, Toronto West Rotary Club

This award recognizes a club that has provided outstanding service to youth over an extended period.

 

Internal Communications Award - to the Rotary Club of Campbellford

This award covers communication within or between clubs and is open to all clubs by application.  The application should include samples of internet sites, club bulletins, coverage in Rotary News or samples of Rotary education campaigns.

 

External Public Relations Award - to the Rotary Club of Toronto     

This award honours clubs that have generated increased awareness and understanding of Rotary through media coverage or public relations efforts. 

 

Club Bulletin Award - to the Rotary Clubs of Oshawa-Parkwood and Wellington

This award goes to the clubs that excel in broadcasting the weekly meeting results to their members that make a positive difference.

 

The Ed Storie District Conference Award - To the Rotary Clubs of GOALS, Oshawa Parkwood and Scarborough

This is awarded to the three clubs that have the highest per capita contribution to The Rotary Foundation Programs for the year.  Each in one of the following three categories: clubs with less than 25 members, clubs with 25-30 members, and clubs with more than 50 members.

 

Environmental Action Award - to Dan Coombes, Whitby Rotary Club and Woodbridge Rotary Club

This award goes to the Club(s) who made the greatest contribution to the area of environmental awareness, sustainability and protection.

 

Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Award - To the 2022 Rotary Youth Leadership Symposium Committee & Participants

This award goes to the Club(s) or Rotarian(s) who made the greatest contribution to the advancement of diversity, equity and inclusion.

 

Les Faludy Leadership Award -  to Club Presidents Ferd Longo of the Courtice Rotary Club and Prince Kumar of the Toronto Rotary CLub

This award is made to the Club President who, in the judgment of the District Governor, provided the most outstanding leadership during the preceding Rotary year. 

 

Council of Past District Governors Award - to Niecy Dillon - Rotary Club of Whitby-Sunrise 

This is awarded annually to the Rotarian of the District who had made the greatest service contribution during the preceding year.
