Nathan Adams, District 7070’s 2016-2017 inbound Global Grant Scholar from District 2110 in Malta, is now a Project Officer at the United Nations Association in Canada (UNA-Canada). Nathan helps facilitate the newly launched UNA-Canada Green Spaces student employment programme, which is designed to provide talented students (aged 15-30) with engaging summer work opportunities in parks and natural settings across Canada. Green spaces aims to place 150 talented students in work-integrated learning placements within Canada’s green economy, with the primary goals of:

  • Providing outdoor summer work opportunities for students to get connected with nature and enhance their knowledge and awareness for environmental sustainability in their communities and across Canada

  • Assisting employer organizations and communities in reducing their carbon emissions

  • Engaging communities to share innovative carbon-reduction best practices

This wage-matching programme offers non-profit organizations, private businesses, governments, and other associations that meet the Green Spaces mandate with the opportunity to engage talented students in work that augments the organization’s green initiatives. Green Spaces placements will be 16-weeks in length and start on May 1st 2018 through August 31st 2018. This programme represents a national effort to bridge students into green summer placements in the following focus cities:

Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, Quebec City, Halifax, Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary, Saskatoon, Winnipeg and Yellowknife

Nathan is actively engaging with Rotary clubs that may be interested in learning more about the Green Spaces programme in order to promote work-integrated placement opportunities for students seeking long-term careers in Canada’s green economy.

Nathan has delivered several presentations to Rotary clubs and formed part of the Inspirational Leadership panel organized by Districts 7070, 7080 & 7090 at the March 3, 2018 Multi-District Presidents-Elect Training Seminar. Nathan is readily available to speak to Rotary clubs in the Greater Toronto Area and Ottawa regarding the UNA-Canada Green Spaces programme and his background in the environmental field in Malta, Canada and Indonesia.
