The Rotary ‘GREAT LAKES WATERSHED CLEANUP’ is on right now. From Saturday April 24 (to coincide with Earth Day on April 22) through mid June 2021, over 20,000 Rotarians on both sides of the Canadian and U.S. border will roll up their sleeves to collect refuse along the shoreline, and innumerable waterway tributaries to the Great Lakes basin. This is great example of ‘ROTARY IN ACTION’ and brings considerable community attention to the importance of ‘ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY’

Your Rotary District 7070 Peacebuilding and Conflict Resolution Committee hosted the Tuesday Talk on May 11th — “Two Drops for Peace”: Building Resilient Communities Together with S. R. “MARTIN” RLA Mediator, Architect & Social Entrepreneur, dedicated to sustainability and peacebuilding. He pointed out that the lessons of the past year have demonstrated just how interconnected we all are and that no size community - urban or rural - is immune to violence and Rotarians have demonstrated that we are uniquely prepared for the challenge. To fight disease, we rely on physicians, but to address the deeper divides threatening our communities, we need peacebuilders with the skills to connect with each other and ourselves.
S.R. Martin shared his experience of transitioning from architect to peacebuilder; what he learned from being a Rotary Peace Fellow; and about how Mediators Beyond Borders International, a Rotary Service Partner, is assisting Districts around the world to build Positive Peace and Resiliency in their clubs and communities. The recording is now available on the District 7070 YouTube Chanel: https://youtu.be/uq1kgErEWkY
Thank you to Past District Governor Beth Selby for a very successful year with our Tuesday Talks.
Diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) is a top priority for Rotary International, one that underscores the core values that are a foundation for how members interact with each other and their communities. Over the last two years, the RI Board of Directors have taken steps to cement Rotary's commitment to being an organization that sets the standard for valuing and living the principals of DEI. In 2019 the Board adopted Rotary's DEI statement that affirms its commitment to DEI and recognizes that welcoming people with differing perspectives and ideas enhances Rotary's ability to create lasting change in communities worldwide. In 2020, the Board convened a task force , chaired by RI Director Valarie Wafer, that will shape a comprehensive DEI action plan with achievable, measurable, and meaningful outcomes for Rotary. Rotary has engaged professional advisors to help us assess and better understand how DEI is perceived and experienced by Rotary members across the globe. As part of this process, we will review our policies and procedures, conduct interviews with Rotary leadership, and survey our members. Learn more

Clubs interested in the Rotary Foundation District and Global Grant programs in the 2021-22 Rotary year must meet the requirements set up by the Rotary Foundation. If your Club wants to apply for a Global Grant or District Grant in 2021-22, the club must be qualified. The qualification is valid for one year. Clubs that are qualified for this year, must qualify again for next year. Please, note that Clubs must be qualified throughout the life of a project. This is particularly important to Clubs involved in Global Grant projects. Those projects typically take more than one Rotary year to complete. Click HERE to see the You Tube recording. This Rotary Foundation Seminar provided an overview of the Rotary Foundation and gave the participants suggestions and guidelines for writing District and Global Grant project applications.
On Saturday, May 1, 2021, the District Foundation Committee presented an on-line Seminar about the RotaryFoundation and its Grants Program (Global and District Grants). The Seminar consisted of two sessions, starting at 8.30 am . The Seminar was not an alternative to the District’s Qualification process. Instead, it can be seen as a compliment to the three training Modules that are found on www.rotary7070.org However, those attending the Seminar should find it easier to successfully complete the three Quizzes that are required for the Qualification process. The first half of the program provided a general overview of the Rotary Foundation; its mission, funds, ways of supporting the Foundation, the Foundation’s organization and programs. The second half covered the Grants program and included case presentations of Global and District Grant projects from the District.

So far, several clubs have surpassed their Annual Fund goal, and many of you are still working toward your club's Annual Fund goal. As we near the end of the Rotary year, let’s strive to meet these goals. For those clubs that have surpassed their goal – thank you! Perhaps there is an opportunity to donate a bit more! The world needs the Rotary Foundation more today than it ever has in its history. The Covid-19 pandemic has really put stress on the Rotary Foundation. Over 40 million dollars has been given in grants to clubs around the world to assist in the fight against the pandemic. To my fellow Rotary and Rotaract family, here in District 7070,
Great news !! At the recent meeting of 7070 District Rotary Foundation committee meeting, it was reported that all 55 out of our 55 clubs have submitted goals in MyRotary for polio eradication for a totalling more than $ 62,000! So far, many clubs have surpassed their goal for polio eradication, but their are still many clubs that are still working on to achieve their goal of at least $1,500 USD as a minimum (as per Rotary International request). As we near the end of the Rotary year, let’s strive to meet these goals. For those clubs that have surpassed their goal – thank you! Perhaps there is an opportunity to donate a bit more! CLICK HERE TO DONATE
The request by the board of Rotary International and the Foundation board of trustees is that every club to donate $1,500 USD ($1,921CAD) as a minimum. Remember that for every dollar donated the Gates foundation will match 2 to one so $1,500 dollars becomes $4,500 dollars........

On behalf of HIP (Honouring Indigenous Peoples), its Board of Directors and Allies, we extend our deepest sympathies to the Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc First Nation on the discovery of the mass grave on the site of a former residential school in Kamloops British Columbia. We ask everyone to wear orange, lower flags and declare this a national time of mourning to Honour these 215 children, and all Indigenous children who never made it home.
Finding these remains is a painful reminder of the injustice and the intergenerational impact it has had. The passage of time does not erase the suffering caused by residential schools to Indigenous communities, survivors and their families. To truly Honour these children and their families, we encourage everyone to take action by reading the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) report from 2015 and seek to implement the 94 Calls-to-Action in support of reconciliation and to heal the suffering.

The Pie Chart included shows a graphical representation of the results. Where do you "think" your club fits in this chart? What is the Image that the public have, about your club?

For over ten years, District 7070 has offered Clubs assistance with their strategic planning through the Club Visioning program developed by IVFC, International Vision Facilitation Council. IVFC, founded in District 5960, consists of experienced Rotarians in the US, Canada, UK, Australia and Scandinavia. Looking back, close to 40 Clubs in D7070 have run at least one session, many two or three. Overall, the program was well received.
Over the last year, a committee of IVFC has met regularly to review and update the program based on experience from around the world. The process is now closer connected with RI’s Strategic Plan. In addition, more focus is placed on developing the Action Plan as a result of the visioning session. The experience from most districts using the program was that Clubs were very good at generating ideas at the sessions, but often had problems creating the action plan. A virtual version of the program has also been developed. The virtual Club Visioning Program will be launched officially on July 1, 2021. Therefore, we are looking for Rotarians who would be interested in being part of the teams delivering the program. Please Read more to find out how you can join in.....

Congratulations to the Youth Service Committee and Chair Patti Wright for an outstanding presentation on March 9, 2021 for Tuesday Talks on Youth Services. We found out how our clubs can become more involved in so many service to our Youth, here in District 7070, in southern Ontario: Earlyact, Interact, Rotaract, RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards), International Youth Exchange and a brand new venture for District 7070, called ROTEX. Listen to the leaders.
We saw how Rotaract has changed and how easy it is for your club to start a Rotaract Club. Rotaractors are really changing the world. How great is Interact? We heard from them and saw first-handed. The Youth Exchange team is looking for volunteers, students for the exchange, and of course, volunteer host families. We found out how our clubs can participate. The RYLA program helps our young adults here in southern Ontario, with so many Leadership Development skills and challenges. The RYLA team is looking for your volunteers to help put together an outstanding RYLA week in 2022. Their planning starts now. They are looking for you. If your club already sponsors a Rotaract or Interact Club, we hope you enjoyed hearing their talk about what they are doing to make a difference in our world. We hope you tuned in live, but just in case, HERE IS a link to the You Tube recording. This is a "not to miss" Tuesday Talks featuring our own members right here in our District 7070.
Watch and listen to Gayle Oudeh as she explains how we approach and deal with conflict can make the difference between resolving a conflict quickly or causing it to escalate dramatically. Yet we don’t always think about how we should respond to a conflict – we just react! This session focused on the five different approaches people take to conflict using the metaphor of birds. Are you a woodpecker, owl, hummingbird, parakeet or ostrich? There’s a time and place for each style. Find out how you can resolve conflicts more effectively by adjusting and adapting your conflict management style!
