Dear fellow Rotarians,

Rotary International has two foci for the month of October - October's Theme is Economic and Community Development, and on October 24, 2019, we celebrate World Polio Day.

According to Rotary International’s website, “Nearly 1.4 billion employed people live on less than $1.25 a day”.  The Rotary Action Group on Microfinance and Economic Development is aimed at eliminating poverty through empowering people.........

The District 7070 Microfinance Committee has been in existence since 2008 and its members are District Rotarians.  Their mandate is: to broaden and deepen Rotarians' understanding and awareness of microfinance, and assist clubs to participate in effective microfinance programs within their communities and/or internationally.  Committee members raise awareness of microfinance at their own club, work with other clubs who wish to take on a microfinance project, and conduct presentations at clubs within the District.  For more information, contact Chair  Karen Somerville (amunn@pathcom.com).

World Polio Day is October 24th.  What is your club doing?  Are you holding an event to educate the public or hosting an event to raise money in the global fight to end polio?  There are numerous resources including videos available in the End Polio Now Resource Centre.  Michael McGovern, Chair, International PolioPlus Committee, and John F. Germ, Chair, End Polio Now: Countdown to History Campaign Committee, encourage  every club to set a minimum PolioPlus goal of $1,500 in addition to their Annual Fund goals.

Yours in Rotary,
Beth
