Dear fellow Rotarians,
Membership in Rotary International has its privileges. As a member of our international organization, you have access to 35,000 plus clubs world-wide. Visiting clubs while traveling for business or pleasure is a great opportunity to meet fellow Rotarians around the world.....
On a recent trip to Austria while visiting a Youth Exchange Student, and her family, that Barry and I were counsellors for nine years ago, I met a close family friend of their’s who is a member of the Rotary Club of Tulln. I would have visited his Club, but that Monday was a holiday in Austria so there was no meeting. Over a glass of Grüner Veltliner, we enjoyed an afternoon of socializing as we shared our clubs' interests and learned more about each other's districts.
On previous trips, we have attended Rotary meetings in Barbados, British Columbia, England, France, Sint Maarten, and South Carolina. All of our visits have been wonderful learning opportunities about what Rotary means to us and others around the world.
As Barry and I have visited clubs in our district the last eighteen months as District Governor Nominee and District Governor-Elect, we have enjoyed meeting new Rotarians and renewing friendships with Rotarians known to us. We look forward to enhancing this enjoyment as we visit clubs, attend club and district events, and participate in club service projects.
August in Membership and New Club Development Month. One of my goals this year is to assist Club Presidents with strengthening their clubs. I believe the key to membership retention is engagement. We are great at attracting people to Rotary, but we need to engage them in social activities and service projects to retain them as members. The Rotary Club of Toronto Beach will soon be newly chartered, and we are examining the possibility of a new club in Vaughan
