Past District Governor Iosif Ciosa and the District Governor Team hosted the annual District Govern Changeover Ceremony and Awards Presentations for more than 130 Rotarians and Rotaractors and their spouses from all over District 7070, on June 23, 2023 at the Whitby Marina, as Past District Governor Iosif recognized many clubs, Rotarians, Rotaractors and Interactors for their outstanding contributions to Rotary during this year.......

DISTRICT 7070 YOUTH SERVICES AWARDS:  Presented by District Governor Nominee Designate Niecy Dillon -Tyrovolas

Niecy thanked Youth Services Chair Shauna Moore and her committee (Rotaract - Shauna Moore , Interact - Laura Bradford, for their outstanding work this year,  and Beth Selby and the Youth Exchange Committee for outstanding years.  Niecy then presented the awards to the Rotaractors and Interactors. 

 

DISTRICT 7070 INTERACT AWARDS:  

DISTRICT INSPIRATIONAL AWARD – This award recognizes one outstanding Interactor within the District who was inspired to demonstrate outstanding achievement in Rotary and in the community both locally and internationally and through his or her actions has been an inspiration to others to do the same. To Ahmed Abdelghany - North York Interact Club.  Ahmed’s contribution to his club and community is outstanding: Helping out with the RC of North York Gala Fundraiser for NYGH Foundation; Volunteering at the Neighbourlink BBQ; Volunteering at the Toronto Marathon Run water station; Culture exchange meetings over Zoom with Interact clubs from around the world such as Egypt and Italy where they got to present Canadian culture and learn about others as well; Organizing the international pen pal project through email between 6 different countries in collaboration with the library council at Earl Haig High School; Creating an inter video as well as promotional materials and helping to organize the D7070 peace conference with Rtn. Nevine Yassa. In addition, they commissioned art pieces from the arts council to be sold as auction items at the conference, as well as a musical performance by the dance council from Earl Haig High School; Currently working on the donation project for North York General Hospital with an Interact Club in Romania. While community building and volunteering, Ahmed maintained a school average over 96%. He has  been accepted into the prestigious Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland for September 2023. In order to be accepted into this Medical school, you must have a minimum of 95%.

DISTRICT LEADERSHIP AWARD – This award recognizes an Interactor who has volunteered time toward improving and enriching the community and/or leadership initiatives that have positively affected the quality of life of others. To  Andy Liu - Aurora Newmarket Interact Club. As president of the Aurora Newmarket Club Andy has provided exemplary leadership for his club keeping his members engaged, growing his membership and providing all of his members with opportunity for leadership and project management opportunities while supporting them to succeed. Andy also attended RYLS in May.

DISTRICT OUTSTANDING INTERACT CLUB: This award is for clubs which best reflect the themes of Interact and the District. To:  Etobicoke CI Interact Club. Peacebuilding and conflict prevention: Building bridges between people from different communities by having a member attend the Rotary Youth Leadership Symposium. Disease prevention and treatment: Running a polio awareness campaign in our school. Water and sanitation and hygiene: Working with Days for Girls, an organization that promotes menstrual health around the world, by creating reusable menstrual hygiene kits that will help girls stay in school. Maternal and child health: Donating a portion of food drive donations to a women’s shelter. Working with Lakeshore Charitable Foundation to write letters as Santa to children in the Philippines, supporting childrens’ mental health. Creating reusable menstrual hygiene kits with the organization Days For Girls to support girls’ menstrual health internationally. Basic education and literacy: Running a book drive in the school and community, focusing on childrens’ books. Community economic development: Running a food drive and book drive to support local communities. Donations went to organizations including Thistletown Foodbank, Weston Area Emergency Services, St. James Food Pantry, Rexdale’s Women’s Shelter, and Little Free Libraries. Supporting the Environment: Members participating in the Great Lakes Watershed Cleanup in Tom Riley Park.

DISTRICT SOCIAL AWARD – This award is for keeping members connected which is key to maintaining a healthy, energized club; by working together we can continue to succeed in the district. To Etobicoke CI Interact Club. The Interact Club at Etobicoke Collegiate Institute has kept connections with Rotarians, Rotaractors, and Interactors in many ways. We have worked with two Rotary Clubs throughout the year. In addition to this, we had a member attend the Rotary Youth Leadership Symposium, connecting with Rotarians, Rotaractors and other Interactors.

DISTRICT OUTSTANDING PROJECT AWARD – Recognizes Interactors who are making a sustainable impact in one of Rotary's areas of focus through their innovative community or international service projects To Haley Watkins - Richview Collegiate Interact Club. As President of the Richview Collegiate Institute Interact Club, Hayley Watkins is a dedicated and enthusiastic leader. With the help of her Executive team, her Club organized about one Interact event a month during the school year to support both local and global community initiatives. Events included a food drive, polio awareness campaign, Days for Girls event, Letters to Santa, Kids Against Hunger and a Great Lakes park clean-up. These events are always well attended by student volunteers which speaks to Hayley's organizational and leadership skills.
