Please ensure that if the President cannot attend\, you ma y want someone from your club to receive this honour. Please ask them to r egister online. We are asking all 10 Rotary Clubs in Durham Region (and th e Rotary Club of Port Hope too) to cancel the weekly meetings this week an d instead\, attend\, with their spouses\, this World Polio Day Event in th e new Global Classroom\, in the new Centre for Collaborative Education Bui lding at Durham College\, 2000 Simcoe St. N.\, Oshawa\, ON\, Canada L1G 0C 5 . Many clubs have already cancelled their weekly meeting so that their members can attend.    The event\, hosted by the Rotary Clubs of Oshawa and Oshawa-Parkwood\, will run from 5 pm to about 9 pm. Please bring your Club Name badge\, and download the new "2 Drops of Patience" virtual real ity movie\, fromthe new Rotary VR app. Parking will be in Founders Lot 2 ( no charge ). There will be a 45 minute reception from 5 to 5:45 pm and the re will be a cash bar with a light lunch served. This will be an opportuni ty to visit with fellow Rotarians and share with them our great desire to eradicate polio from the world. A light lunch will be served. Cost of the event will be $25.00 per person and a portion of the ticket price will be a donation to the Rotary Foundations' End Polio Campaign. That portion\, going to The Rotary Foundation\, will be credited to each Rotarian's next Paul Harris Award.   The capacity will be 200 and it will be on a first c ome first served registration.   The Global Classroom has the ability to receive and send out the Rotary live stream feed (from 6:30 pm to 7:15 pm) featuring Rotarians and their Global Polio Eradication initiative Partner s (as we have done for the last few years). It is one of the oldest professional medical organizations in the United Sta tes. Global health experts and Rotary’s celebrity polio ambassadors will discuss our remarkable progress toward a polio-free world. Patience Asiim we\, the protagonist of Rotary’s upcoming virtual reality film “Two Dr ops of Patience\,” will introduce the movie. A sneak peek from Rotary’ s documentary “Drop to Zero” will also be featured. Jeffrey Kluger\, s enior editor for Time magazine\, will discuss his experience traveling to Nigeria with Rotary to report on polio eradication. And we’ll celebrate the 30th anniversary of the founding of the Global Polio Eradication Initi ative.   7:15 pm to 7:30 pm: Intermission   7:30 pm to 8:00 pm: Introduc tion and speech by Dr. Bob Scott\, Immediate Past Chair of the Rotary Inte rnational PolioPlus Committee During Bob's speech \, he will be talking t o a VIP ( from Pakistan\,  who has been instrumental in the Polio Eradi cation Initiative in Pakistan. Special guests from Pakistan will also be c onnected during the livestream (between 7:30 and 8:15 pm Eastern Time) whe re it will be 3:30 am on Thursday morning\, during the keynote speech by D r. Bob Scott\, the immediate Past Chair of the Rotary International PolioP lus Committee worldwide. He will be updating the audience\, in Oshawa and around the globe\, on Rotary's continuing effort to rid polio from every c orner of the world. He will be connecting wi th Aseefa Bhutto Zardari\, t he first child in Pakistan to receive the oral polio vaccine\, in 1994 as part of the country’s first National Immunization Day. Aseefa is a Rot ary amabssador for polio eradcation. Her mother\, Benazir Bhutto\, then p rime minister\, gave the drops to her daughter herself\, a compelling endo rsement of the nascent campaign. In 1988\, at age 35\, Assefa's mother\, B enazir Bhutto became the first woman elected to lead a Muslim country. She was assassinated in 2007\, just months after she had returned to Pakistan after almost nine years in exile. But Aseefa Bhutto Zardari – whose fat her\, Asif Ali Zardari\, served as president of Pakistan from 2008 to 2013 – is carrying on her mother’s work.
