Focusing on the WASH Ambassador Program

Over the past two years, the WASH Ambassador program has expanded to over 130 Ambassadors. In this issue of the WASH Newsletter we are focusing on the Ambassador program, to increase awareness of what it is achieving and encouraging interested WASH-RAG members to submit an application to join.

Do you know a WASH Rotaractor? Calling Rotaractors - we have an opening on the Operations Team of the WASH Rotary Action Group! While their skills are diverse, our Operations Team members are united by a passionate commitment to providing safe water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) to those who don’t have access to these basic human rights.  Under the leadership of Rotaract Member and WASH Ambassador Abdul Alhassan, the Operations Team, an active campaign is underway to get Rotaract Members involved in WASH projects in general and to join WASH-RAG. They bring energy, creativity, and technical skills. We are pleased that four Rotaract members have become WASH Ambassadors. Two are located in the United Kingdom, and two are located in Africa. Forward this newsletter to anyone you know would be interested! https://www.wash-rag.org/page/positions

Looking for a Water Project?:    Our members often ask "Where can I find an International Partner?" and "How do I get other clubs to support my Project?"

This fall we released our WASH Project Portal where you can submit your Global Grant information. The process to submit your project is easy and very straightforward. You can also submit your Global Grant, Community Assessment, and any additional information (e.g. photos, promotional pamphlets, etc.)  It is clearly indicated which Projects need an International Partner. A bar chart indicates how much money has been raised. Regular follow-ups will keep the information updated. Upload your Global Grant and see how well the Portal works

Our Members Asked?  - WASHRAG is extremely fortunate to count many dedicated and knowledgeable Rotarians on its team. Which is good - as our membership has lots of questions about the best technology to use on projects, how best to assess local needs, and best practices for sustainable projects.  We would like to start a new feature in the newsletter, where you ask the questions and we get answers from our experts and the readers. We will provide the input in a future newsletter. Send your email to info@wasrag.org and indicate QUESTION in the title

The Water, Sanitation & Hygiene Rotarian Action Group is a group of Rotarians whose purpose is to support Rotary clubs to effectively plan, finance, implement, monitor and evaluate water, sanitation, and hygiene programs, where they are most needed in a collaborative, cost-effective, timely, and sustainable manner, true to the principles of Rotary International. WASH RAG operates in accordance with Rotary International policy but is not an agency of, or controlled by, Rotary International.

To submit stories and pictures our Newsletter, please email: info@wasrag.org to the attention of WASH RAG newsletter editors Ian Rumbles and Terri Black.

You Can Introduce Your Club to WASH-RAG (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene): It’s easy to become a WASH Advocate by becoming a presenter at your next club meeting, District meeting, or Zone! You can present WASH in your community!  Did you know you don't have to be a Rotarian to join WASH-RAG?  Your environmentally minded friends, water-conscious community members, and the general public can join us too! Tell them to check us out at www.wash-rag.org or forward this newsletter!

SIX KEY ELEMENTS TO WASH ADVOCACY:  When to Invite the Mayor to Your Project?  "First off, it is not your project. It is the Community's Project," which is how John Oldfield, WASH Advocacy Expert, might start answering that question. He would likely follow up with, "Not when00 you are cutting a ribbon, but at the first meeting you hold to discuss the project."  "Six Key Elements for Successful WASH Advocacy" outlines the steps to implement and sustain a WASH project.
