DON EDWARDS - ROTARY CLUB OF ETOBICOKE

On September 17, 2025 at the weekly meeting of the Rotary Club of Etobicoke,  President Lynda Ryder asked Andy Chiodo and Ralph Chiodo to come to the podium to toast our longtime member, Past President, and Club Treasurer for many years, Don Edwards. Andy was asked to give the following tribute to Don:  Don Edwards was a member of the Rotary Club of Etobicoke from 1969; past president 1988/89, in fact was the president when RI threatened to pull our charter for allowing Women into Rotary. He was a Paul Harris Fellow, and an ardent supporter and believer in our Rotary Foundation.  Don was our Treasurer for many years for both our club and the Toronto Ribfest.  He was a dedicated volunteer and he generously gave his time and efforts and energy for many decades.  As mentioned above, Don was the first Rotary president in Canada   to welcome women into a Rotary Club, and mentored Lynda Ryder as the first Canadian Woman President of a Rotary Club.  Don was a special friend to the Chiodo's and both Don & Ralph championed our very successful Toronto Ribfest, which is still going strong today undwe the leadership of Gerard Lue.    Don had a lifelong passion for horse racing, as sport he followed with great enthusiasm throughout his life.  Don was a man of tremendous work ethic, and his devotion to his family was unwavering.  His constant support, strength of character, and quiet integrity made him a wonderful example for all to follow.  Ralph asked everyone to raise a glass for fellow Rotarian, Donald William Edwards who peacefully passed away on Saturday, May 3rd, 2025.

DR. MYLES FISHER - ROTARY CLUB OF OSHAWA-PARKWOOD
